For Companions
Be the voice someone counts on.
Companions are the heart of Haven. You spend real time on the phone with people who may not have many people to talk to: some on their own, some with plenty going on but no one who really listens. They don't need anything clever from you. They need to feel heard, and to know the time was theirs. If someone hangs up feeling a little less alone, you've done the job, and you're paid for it.
How it works for you
Set your hours
Tell Haven when you are open to calls. Mornings, evenings, an hour here and there: your availability is yours to shape, and you can step away any time.
Take a call
When someone would like company, Haven rings you. Answer warmly, listen well, and let the conversation be theirs.
Earn, and grow your circle
You earn for the time you spend on calls. Show up kind and steady, and the people you talk with can ask for you again: your book of regulars grows over time.
Getting started is deliberately simple
Joining Haven asks very little of you up front, on purpose. You sign in with your phone number: we text you a code, you type it in, and there is no password to keep. Then you choose a name to go by, tell us the languages you speak and what you like to talk about, and you are ready to start.
You begin as a probationary Companion. Subscribers only ever see the name you choose, never your legal identity or location, and your early calls get the most attention from our team. That attention is there to help you settle in, and it is how a new Companion earns the trust the work deserves.
What we look for
Warm, steady, and genuinely kind
You don't need credentials to be good company. You need warmth, patience, and the kind of reliability that makes a weekly call something a person can lean on. Every Companion is welcomed onto Haven, and everyone begins on a probationary path: your early calls get the most attention, which is there to support you as you find your feet. As you build a steady, kind track record, you earn more trust over time.
After calls, the people you talk with can rate how it went. Think of ratings as encouragement, not a scoreboard: the companions who show up warm and reliable are the ones Haven leans on, and the ones whose circle of regulars grows.
When the phone rings
Your hours are a door you open, not a shift you owe. Haven only ever matches you while you are actually there and free: open to calls in the app, online right now, and not already talking with someone. Step away any time, and nothing rings.
When someone would like company, Haven can ring you like a normal call, even when the app is closed. And when one of your regulars reaches out, Haven tries you first if you are free. Never a guarantee, on either side: everyone keeps their own hours here, and that is by design.
Best practices
Being a great companion
The same guidance every Companion carries in the app. None of it is complicated; all of it matters.
Open warm and unhurried
A simple, friendly hello goes a long way. Use the name they show you, ask an easy question, and let them set the pace. If they are quiet at first, give them room.
Really listen
Listening is most of the work. Let them finish, follow their thread, and reflect feelings back gently. Remember the small details; bringing them up later shows you were truly there.
Let silences be okay
Quiet is not a failure. For someone who just wants company, sitting together on the line can be a comfort all by itself. A soft "I'm still here" is plenty.
Ask gentle questions
Curiosity is a gift. Ask about what fills their days and the people who matter to them. Open questions beat yes-or-no ones, and never push on a tender topic.
Keep it about them
Share just enough of yourself to keep it human, then turn it back. The measure of a good call is how much they got to be themselves, not how much you talked.
Hold healthy boundaries
You are a kind companion, not their doctor, therapist, or family. No advice you are not qualified to give, and never ask for or accept money, gifts, or favours.
A quiet compass, so you never start cold
Haven also keeps a quiet compass for you: your own notes and topic chips for each person you talk with, kept for your eyes and Haven's safety reviewers, resurfaced before every call, so "how did the garden turn out?" is never more than a glance away.
Your note is private to you; only Haven's safety reviewers can also see it, never the person you wrote it about and never another Companion. And the topics themselves are chosen by the people you talk with: after a call they mark what they loved or would rather not talk about again, and what they mark is shared with their Companions.
The ground rules protect you, too
Anonymity is mutual
You never learn who the person on the other end really is, and they never learn who you are. The names you see are handles, built into the platform, not just a promise. It means a vulnerable person can open up freely, and no one can find or follow you off the platform. Real names, numbers, addresses, and social profiles stay out of every conversation, and conversations stay on Haven.
Your name is yours to choose
The name subscribers see is a handle you pick, and names are just names: you cannot put an email, a link, or a phone number in the name people see, because that is how someone would try to move a conversation off Haven. The platform checks it at the door, every time.
And it stays put once it matters
You can change the name people see until you have your first regular. After that it stays put, so the people who know you can still find you, and the track record you build stays with you.
Every call is recorded
Every Haven call is recorded and monitored for safety and quality, agreed up front by everyone as a condition of using Haven. While you're new, your calls are reviewed more closely; that eases as your pairings establish. It helps keep conversations kind, and it means our team can follow up when a call gets hard.
You are not the safety net
Some calls turn heavy, and you are not expected to be a crisis professional. Stay kind and keep listening: every call is recorded, some are reviewed by our team, and we look most closely at newer Companions and newer pairings. If something feels off mid-call, you can flag it for review without ending the conversation, and you can raise a concern afterwards too. Speaking up never causes trouble for you.
If a conversation suggests someone is struggling, it does not go unnoticed: our team is alerted and follows up. That follow-up comes after the call, so you are never asked to handle a crisis live. And Haven is warm company, not medical or crisis care: in an emergency, a doctor or local emergency services is always the right call, for them and for you.
Companionship, not therapy
Haven is company, not clinical care. You never diagnose, treat, or advise beyond what a kind friend would. That boundary keeps the work honest, safe, and sustainable for both of you.
Questions Companions ask
Do I need experience or credentials?
No. You don't need credentials to be good company; you need warmth, patience, and the kind of reliability that makes a weekly call something a person can lean on. Every Companion is welcomed onto Haven, and everyone begins on the same probationary path, with the earliest calls the most closely reviewed.
Do I get paid?
Yes. You earn for the time you spend on calls. We'll share the practical details with you directly as your area opens.
Can anyone find me outside Haven?
No. You never learn who the person on the other end really is, and they never learn who you are. The names you see are handles, built into the platform, not just a promise, and conversations stay on Haven.
Is Haven an AI thing?
No. Haven exists because the person on the line is real. The only technology in the room works quietly in the background, keeping everyone safe.
What does Haven see of my calls?
Every Haven call is recorded and monitored for safety and quality, agreed up front by everyone as a condition of using Haven. While you're new, your calls are reviewed more closely; that eases as your pairings establish.
